| Welcome. Diabetes management in school is important. With the increase in childhood obesity there are more children with type 2 diabetes that are managed by their primary care provider. Children spend up to ten times more time during the day at school - more than any other setting besides home. Most children with diabetes need to monitor blood sugar at school and take insulin at school.
Community health care providers are vital to helping kids with diabetes remain in good control. Saint Paul Public Schools works with community health care providers to help students remain healthy.

The DMP allows school nurses and other school staff better care for students with diabetes at school. Successful diabetes management depends heavily upon the collaboration and communication between school, families, and health care providers.
Important points about the DMP
- You may continue to use the DMP you usually use
- You can use the link below to access a DMP form
- Any DMP, when signed by the Health Care Provider, serves as consent to administer medications at school.

Role of the School Nurse
The licensed school nurse is a member of the school staff under the administrative direction of the school district to which he/she is assigned or employed.
The school nurse works directly with students, families, health care providers, and school staff to help students with diabetes to maintain good control.
